A series of ten ten-minute episodes of an original comedy series from award-winning writer-creator Nick Hornby about contemporary relationships. Directed by Stephen Frears, each episode is set in a pub immediately before Louise (Rosamund Pike) and Tom (Chris O’Dowd) have their weekly marital therapy session.
Rosamund Pike is perhaps best known for her lead role opposite Ben Affleck in Gone Girl (2014). Rosamund was nominated for an Academy Award, a SAG Award and a Golden Globe Award. Rosamund received critical acclaim for her work opposite Peter Sarsgaard and Carey Mulligan in An Education (2009), for which Nick Hornby adapted the screenplay. Most recently, for her role as Marie Colvin in A Private War, Rosamund earned a 2019 Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Drama. And this year, she stars opposite Chris O’Dowd in State of the Union.
Chris O’Dowd recently co-starred in two Oscar®-nominated films; Molly’s Game (2017), directed by Aaron Sorkin, and Loving Vincent (2017), an oil panted animated film. Chris also starred opposite Rose Byrne and Ethan Hawke in Juliet, Naked (2018), based on the novel by Nick Hornby, and produced by Judd Apatow. Chris can be seen in the show Get Shorty, opposite Ray Romano, and is now also starring opposite Rosamund Pike in State of the Union.
Nick Hornby received Academy Award® nominations for his screenplay adaptations of An Education (2009) and Brooklyn (2015), and adapted Cheryl Strayed’s New York Times bestselling memoir Wild. Nick’s best-selling, award-winning books have also served as a rich stream of inspiration for filmmakers, including adaptations Fever Pitch (1997), High Fidelity (2000), About a Boy (2002), A Long Way Down (2014) and Slam (2016). Most recently, Jesse Peretz has directed an adaptation of his novel Juliet, Naked (2018), starring Rose Byrne, Ethan Hawke and Chris O’Dowd.
Stephen Frears is a two-time Academy Award®-nominated director for The Grifters (1990) and The Queen (2006). In 2000, Stephen directed High Fidelity, based on Nick Hornby’s novel of the same name. Stephen’s film Philomena (2013), starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan, won one BAFTA and was nominated for three others, along with three Golden Globe and four Oscar nominations. His film Florence Foster Jenkins (2016), starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant, which received various accolades including a Golden Globe nomination for Best Picture and an Oscar® nomination for Streep. Stephen followed this with Victoria & Abdul, which starred Judi Dench, who received a Golden Globe nomination.
